Blood test may spare some colon cancer patients from chemo
NCT ID NCT06434896
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether a blood test that detects tiny bits of tumor DNA after surgery can help decide which stage II colon cancer patients should get chemotherapy. About 1,320 patients will be randomly assigned to either have their test results used to guide treatment or to receive standard care. The goal is to see if more patients with a positive test start chemo, and whether this approach reduces cancer recurrence.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- ctDNA blood test
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that a simple blood test can identify which stage II colon cancer patients need chemotherapy after surgery, avoiding unnecessary treatment for others.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-stage observational study, not a treatment trial. The test may not accurately predict recurrence, and the results may not change standard care.
