Blood test may guide chemo decisions for colorectal cancer patients
NCT ID NCT07562711
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is for people with high-risk stage II colorectal cancer who have a positive blood test for tumor DNA one month after surgery. It tests whether using that blood test to choose stronger or different chemotherapy can help clear the tumor DNA and prevent the cancer from coming back. About 340 participants will be randomly assigned to standard chemo or a personalized plan based on their blood test results.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Capecitabine, FOLFOX, CAPOX, FOLFIRI
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that using a blood test to personalize chemotherapy after surgery reduces the chance of cancer returning in high-risk stage II colorectal cancer patients.
What could go wrong
This is a Phase 2 trial with 340 participants, so results are still early. The approach may not improve survival or could lead to unnecessary side effects from stronger chemotherapy.
