Chilling the root: could cryotherapy cool Post-Dental pain?
NCT ID NCT07771816
First seen Aug 18, 2026 ยท Last updated Aug 18, 2026
Summary
This trial tests whether applying cryotherapy (cold therapy) along with different concentrations of sodium hypochlorite irrigation during vital pulp therapy can reduce post-operative pain in permanent mandibular molars. Adults aged 15-40 with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis will undergo the procedure, and their pain levels will be measured using a standard pain scale. The goal is to see if adding cold therapy to the irrigation improves pain control compared to standard irrigation alone.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Sodium hypochlorite irrigation with and without cryotherapy during vital pulp therapy
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this approach could offer a simple, low-cost way to reduce pain after root canal procedures, improving patient comfort and recovery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small early-stage trial, so results may not apply broadly. Pain relief may not differ significantly, and the procedure carries standard risks like infection or tissue irritation.
