Freeze or burn? new study tests two nerve treatments for back pain
NCT ID NCT06804551
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares two treatments for chronic low back pain caused by facet joints: standard radiofrequency ablation (RFA), which burns pain nerves, and a newer freezing method called iovera°. Both aim to block pain signals temporarily. About 30 adults with long-term back pain will receive one of the treatments and report their pain levels over a year. The goal is to see if freezing is as effective as burning, with possibly fewer side effects.
