Targeted drug crizotinib tested against rare ALK-driven cancers
NCT ID NCT04439266
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This phase 2 trial tests the drug crizotinib in patients with advanced cancers (other than lung cancer) that have a specific genetic change called ALK rearrangement. Crizotinib works by blocking the ALK protein, which may stop cancer cells from growing. The study enrolled only 5 participants and aims to see if the drug can shrink tumors or slow disease progression.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
crizotinib (a targeted cancer drug, brand name Xalkori)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a treatment option for rare cancers with ALK rearrangements that are not lung cancer.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-phase trial (only 5 participants) and results may not apply to all patients. Crizotinib can cause side effects like heart rhythm problems.
