CPAP tested in kids with heart failure: a breath of fresh air?
NCT ID NCT02414126
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 36 times
Summary
This study looked at whether a breathing device called CPAP can reduce the work of breathing and improve heart function in 30 children with heart failure, aged 8 months to 17 years. Researchers measured breathing effort and heart performance during short periods of CPAP and normal breathing while the children were awake. The goal is to understand if CPAP could be a helpful daytime therapy for these young patients.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that CPAP helps children with heart failure breathe easier and improve heart function during the day.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 30 children, so results may not apply to all. CPAP may not provide clear benefits or could be uncomfortable.
