MRI scans reveal hidden lung blood vessel issues in COPD patients

NCT ID NCT04126616

First seen Nov 19, 2025 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study used MRI scans to look at blood flow in the lungs of 30 people with COPD, both at rest and after mild exercise. The goal was to learn more about how the disease affects lung blood vessels, which is not well understood. By improving this knowledge, doctors hope to better predict and manage complications like pulmonary hypertension.

If successful, this could lead to better understanding of how COPD affects lung blood vessels, potentially guiding future treatments.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed observational study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply broadly. It does not test a treatment.
