ER study tests if Dye-Free scan protects kidneys
NCT ID NCT03116139
First seen Mar 29, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 6 times
Summary
This study looked at whether using a VQ scan (which does not use IV dye) instead of a CT scan can prevent kidney injury in emergency patients being checked for a blood clot in the lungs. The researchers enrolled 253 adults with a low risk of blood clot but a high risk of kidney problems from the dye. The study was terminated early, so results are limited.
