Can MRI beat ultrasound for heart valve diagnosis?
NCT ID NCT04126018
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two heart imaging methods—echocardiography (ultrasound) and cardiac MRI—to see which measures heart valve disease more accurately. Researchers will enroll 200 adults with suspected moderate or severe valve problems. The goal is to improve how doctors assess valve disease and heart function.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors choose the best imaging method to assess heart valve disease and guide treatment decisions.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not change current practice if the methods agree closely or if MRI is not widely available.
