Brain zap aftermath: can we map and avoid memory loss?
NCT ID NCT06466720
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tracks 80 patients with brain tumors (metastases or meningiomas) who receive stereotactic radiosurgery. Researchers use memory tests and quality-of-life questionnaires before treatment and every 3 months for a year to see if and how brain function changes. By comparing test results with MRI scans and radiation plans, they hope to pinpoint brain regions where reducing radiation could prevent cognitive decline.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this study could help doctors reduce radiation to brain areas that cause thinking problems, potentially improving quality of life for future patients.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small pilot study, so results may not apply to all patients. It only measures changes and does not test a new treatment, so direct benefits are limited.
