Could a Starch-Based drug clean toxins from dialysis Patients' blood?

NCT ID NCT07653711

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This trial tests whether a drug called coated aldehyde oxystarch (Xiqing) can reduce protein-bound uremic toxins in adults with end-stage renal disease who are on dialysis. Participants take the drug three times daily for three months. Researchers measure toxin levels in the blood before and after treatment to see if they drop.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Coated Aldehyde Oxystarch (Xiqing)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a new way to reduce harmful toxins in dialysis patients, potentially improving their health and quality of life.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early exploratory trial with only 30 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The treatment may not lower toxins enough to make a difference, and side effects are possible.
