New study peers inside lungs during Clot-Busting procedure

NCT ID NCT07613632

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study watches what happens to the lungs when doctors use a balloon to clear a clot in a dialysis patient's arm graft. Using a special belt that takes pictures of lung activity, researchers will check if tiny clot pieces briefly affect how air and blood flow in the lungs. Twenty adults with kidney failure on dialysis will be monitored before, during, and after the procedure.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help doctors understand how small blood clots from angioplasty affect lung function, potentially improving safety during the procedure.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study with only 20 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It only observes changes and does not test a new treatment.
