NCT ID NCT04580134

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares clozapine and risperidone in people with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or bipolar I disorder with psychosis. Researchers want to see if a specific brain biotype (Biotype-1) responds better to clozapine. About 320 participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two drugs for 18 weeks, and symptom changes will be measured.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
clozapine and risperidone
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that matching treatment to a person's biotype improves outcomes for psychosis.
What could go wrong
This is a mid-stage trial; results may not apply to everyone, and clozapine has known risks like low white blood cell counts that require monitoring.
