New drug cocktail aims to beat back stubborn leukemia
NCT ID NCT04050280
First seen Jul 01, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026
Summary
This study tests a combination of four drugs, called CLAG-GO, in adults whose acute myeloid leukemia (AML) has not responded to standard treatment or has come back after remission. Participants receive the drugs during a hospital stay, and if the cancer goes into remission, they may receive additional chemotherapy or a stem cell transplant. The goal is to see how well this combination works and what side effects it causes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
CLAG-GO (cladribine, cytarabine, G-CSF, and gemtuzumab ozogamicin)
What this could lead to
If successful, this combination could offer a new treatment option for people with hard-to-treat AML, potentially leading to remission and enabling stem cell transplant.
What could go wrong
This is a phase 2 study with a small number of participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The chemotherapy combination can cause serious side effects, including infection and organ damage.
