New combo aims to beat High-Risk leukemia and MDS

NCT ID NCT06802315

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This phase II trial tests whether adding targeted total marrow irradiation to standard chemotherapy before a stem cell transplant can improve outcomes for people with high-risk acute myeloid leukemia, chronic myeloid leukemia, or myelodysplastic syndromes. The study will enroll 38 adults aged 18 to 65. The goal is to see if this combination reduces the chance of relapse and graft-versus-host disease one year after transplant.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

total marrow irradiation, fludarabine, busulfan, cyclophosphamide

What this could lead to

If successful, this approach could improve survival and reduce relapse and graft-versus-host disease for people with high-risk blood cancers.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase trial (38 people) with no control group, so results may not apply broadly. The intense conditioning carries risks like infection, organ damage, and graft failure.
