Experimental combo aims to wipe out stubborn leukemia cells

NCT ID NCT04501939

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This phase 2 trial tests whether adding cirmtuzumab to venetoclax can clear remaining leukemia cells in people with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) who still have detectable disease after standard treatment. Only 5 participants are enrolled, and the main goal is to see if the combination can make the cancer undetectable. The study is active but no longer recruiting.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Cirmtuzumab (Zilovertamab) and Venetoclax (VENCLEXTA)

What this could lead to

If successful, this combination could help clear remaining leukemia cells in patients who still have detectable disease after standard treatment, potentially delaying the need for further therapy.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early-phase trial with only 5 participants, so results may not apply to a broader population. Side effects from the drug combination are possible, and the treatment may not work for everyone.
