Can a Chemo-Free pill combo outsmart leukemia at first diagnosis?
NCT ID NCT06319456
First seen Jul 28, 2026 · Last updated Jul 29, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase 3 trial is testing whether a combination of two targeted oral drugs—lisaftoclax and acalabrutinib—can work better than standard chemoimmunotherapy for people newly diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) or small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL). About 344 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the two-drug combo or a standard chemo regimen. The main goal is to see if the combo helps people live longer without their cancer progressing.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- a combination of two oral drugs: lisaftoclax (a BCL-2 inhibitor) and acalabrutinib (a BTK inhibitor)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this drug combination could offer a more targeted, chemotherapy-free option for people newly diagnosed with CLL/SLL, potentially improving how long they live without their disease getting worse.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early confirmatory trial, so the combination may not prove more effective than current treatments. Side effects from the two drugs together are still being studied.
