Blood test may replace biopsy for prostate cancer monitoring

NCT ID NCT01961713

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study is testing a blood test that looks for tiny pieces of prostate cancer cells floating in the bloodstream. The goal is to see if the number of these cells can tell doctors how advanced the cancer is and if it comes back after surgery. About 200 men with early-stage prostate cancer who are scheduled for prostate removal will participate. The research is purely observational and does not provide a new treatment.
