Brain pacemaker learns sleep patterns to stop tremors

NCT ID NCT06635811

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tests a new way to use deep brain stimulation (DBS) for essential tremor. Normally, DBS runs all the time, which can cause side effects and make the treatment less effective over time. The new approach automatically turns off the stimulation when the person is asleep, based on their brain signals. Researchers will study 25 people with essential tremor who already have a DBS device to see if this smart system is safe, tolerable, and improves tremor control.
