Natural materials may speed gum graft recovery
NCT ID NCT07072546
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether applying chitosan (a natural substance from shellfish) and i-PRF (a concentrate from the patient's own blood) to the wound site can improve healing after a gum graft. Sixty-eight people received one of three treatments: a standard gelatin sponge, chitosan alone, or chitosan with i-PRF. Researchers measured pain, bleeding, and how quickly the wound healed over two months. The goal is to find a way to make recovery more comfortable and faster.

chitosan and injectable platelet-rich fibrin (i-PRF)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could lead to a simple, natural way to speed up healing and reduce pain after gum graft surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study with 68 people. The results may not apply to everyone, and the benefits over standard care might be small.
