Glucose monitor could help teens avoid diabetes
NCT ID NCT05387551
First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study tests whether wearing a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) helps teens with prediabetes stick to healthy lifestyle changes and improve insulin sensitivity. Fifteen overweight or obese teens aged 10–17 with impaired glucose tolerance will wear a Dexcom G7 sensor and receive real-time glucose feedback. The goal is to see if this approach reduces body mass index and lowers the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
continuous glucose monitor (Dexcom G7)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a practical tool to help teens with prediabetes stick to lifestyle changes and lower their risk of type 2 diabetes.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early study (15 teens) with no control group, so results may not be conclusive. The device itself is safe but may not be enough to change long-term habits.
