Neck flap may cut fistula risk after throat cancer surgery
NCT ID NCT07241611
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether placing a flap of neck tissue over the closure line after total larynx removal (laryngectomy) could lower the chance of a pharyngocutaneous fistula—an abnormal opening that can leak saliva and delay healing. Fifty patients with advanced laryngeal cancer took part. The goal was to see if this simple surgical addition improves healing and reduces complications.
