New electric zapper targets heart flutter during surgery

NCT ID NCT06355063

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a new device that uses short electrical pulses to treat atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) during heart surgery. About 30 adults aged 18 to 85 who need heart surgery and have a history of atrial fibrillation will take part. The device aims to create scar tissue around the heart's veins to block faulty signals and restore a normal rhythm. Researchers will check if the procedure is safe and works well in the short and long term.
