Spinal cord injury patients get first shot at novel cell delivery device
NCT ID NCT06841770
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This early-stage trial tests a new device designed to deliver OPC1 cells directly into the spinal cord of people with traumatic spinal cord injuries. The study will enroll 10 participants with either recent or chronic injuries. The main goal is to see if the device and injection procedure are safe, while also looking for signs that the cells might help restore function.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
OPC1 cells (oligodendrocyte progenitor cells)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a treatment that helps restore function and improve quality of life for people with spinal cord injuries.
What could go wrong
This is a very early Phase 1 trial with only 10 participants, so it is primarily testing safety. The treatment also requires immunosuppression, which carries risks, and it may not improve function.
