New Self-Help therapy could offer hope for returning anxiety and depression patients
NCT ID NCT06806176
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether cognitive analytic therapy guided self-help (CAT-GSH) works as well as the standard cognitive behavioural therapy guided self-help (CBT-GSH) for people with anxiety or depression who are returning to NHS talking therapy services. About 100 participants will choose their preferred treatment and complete six sessions. Researchers will measure symptoms before, during, and after therapy to see if CAT-GSH is a good alternative.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- cognitive analytic therapy guided self-help (CAT-GSH)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer returning patients another effective self-help option for anxiety and depression, potentially improving access to care.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with only 100 participants, and it compares two similar therapies, so differences may be small or not apply to everyone.
