Heart rehab may also strengthen aging muscles
NCT ID NCT07197463
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a special cardiac rehabilitation program can improve muscle strength and reduce inflammation in elderly patients with both heart disease and sarcopenia (age-related muscle loss). One hundred participants will either receive rehab plus standard care or standard care alone for three months. Researchers will measure grip strength and blood markers to see if the rehab helps.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Phase I cardiac rehabilitation (low-intensity resistance training, breathing training, bedside cycling)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a simple, drug-free way to improve muscle strength and reduce inflammation in elderly heart patients with muscle loss.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study in China, so results may not apply to other populations. The intervention is non-invasive, so risks are low, but the benefits may be modest.
