Engineered immune cells aim to tame childhood autoimmune diseases
NCT ID NCT07283315
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This early-phase trial is testing a new treatment for children with B cell-related autoimmune diseases like lupus and kidney disease. The therapy uses specially engineered natural killer (NK) cells that target and destroy faulty immune cells. Only 12 children will take part, and the main goal is to see if it is safe and whether it can control the disease.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
anti-CD19/BCMA CAR NK cells (KN5601-K)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new way to control severe autoimmune diseases in children by resetting the immune system without lifelong medication.
What could go wrong
This is a very early, small trial with only 12 participants. The therapy may cause serious side effects or fail to control the disease. Long-term safety and effectiveness are unknown.
