New egg-maturing technique could slash IVF costs and risks

NCT ID NCT06984081

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a milder form of IVF called CAPA in-vitro oocyte maturation (IVM). Instead of giving women strong hormones to stimulate egg growth, eggs are collected early and matured in a lab. The goal is to reduce side effects and costs for women with infertility or those preserving fertility before cancer treatment. The trial will enroll 100 women aged up to 50.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
CAPA IVM (a procedure where eggs are matured outside the body)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a safer, lower-cost alternative to standard IVF for women with infertility or those needing fertility preservation.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study with only 100 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The procedure may not produce enough mature eggs for successful pregnancy.
