NCT ID NCT05351801

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 24, 2026

Summary

This phase 2 trial is testing whether cannabis-based medicines—THC, CBD, or a combination—can safely reduce chronic nerve pain in Veterans. 320 participants will receive one of these treatments or a placebo for six weeks. The goal is to see if these options offer better pain relief than current treatments, which often fall short.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

THC (Syndros), CBD (Epidiolex), and THC+CBD (Nabiximols)

What this could lead to

If successful, this trial could provide evidence that cannabis-based medicines are a safe and effective option for managing chronic neuropathic pain, especially for Veterans.

What could go wrong

This is a mid-stage trial with 320 participants, so results are not definitive. The effects may be modest, and side effects like dizziness or drowsiness are possible. It also focuses on Veterans, so findings may not apply to everyone.
