Early tree nut feeding may shield Peanut-Allergic infants from new allergies

NCT ID NCT04801823

First seen Feb 22, 2026 · Last updated May 05, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study tested whether giving tree nuts (like almonds and cashews) early to babies with peanut allergy could prevent them from developing tree nut allergies. About 212 infants aged 4-11 months with peanut allergy were randomly assigned to either a supervised hospital feeding of four tree nuts followed by home introduction, or standard home introduction alone. The goal was to see if early, regular exposure reduces the risk of tree nut allergy by 18 months of age.
