New blood test may reveal bone health in kids on dialysis
NCT ID NCT07007338
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a new, non-invasive method using calcium isotope ratios in blood to see if the drug cinacalcet improves bone calcium balance in children aged 3-17 who are on dialysis and have secondary hyperparathyroidism. Researchers will measure these ratios before and three months after starting cinacalcet. The goal is to find a better way to monitor bone health without invasive procedures.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
cinacalcet
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a non-invasive way to monitor bone health in children on dialysis, helping doctors tailor treatments like cinacalcet more effectively.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-stage study (20 participants) that only measures a biomarker, not clinical outcomes. The isotope method is still experimental and may not translate into direct patient benefits.
