Brain boosters: could lifestyle changes and memory aids stave off Alzheimer's?

NCT ID NCT05027789

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether teaching memory strategies and promoting exercise, mental activities, and stress management can help older adults with memory concerns keep their thinking sharp. About 263 people aged 65 and older with normal cognition but subjective memory worries will join either a self-guided or structured group. The structured group uses a digital app to track progress. Researchers will measure memory, attention, and daily function over a year.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

memory support training and lifestyle modifications (exercise, mental activities, stress management)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward a practical, non-drug way to help older adults maintain memory and thinking skills as they age.

What could go wrong

This is a behavioral study, not a drug trial, so effects may be modest. Results depend on participants sticking with the program, and it's unclear if benefits will last beyond the study period.
