Summary
People with spinal cord injuries often rely on a bowel program to manage neurogenic bowel, a condition that makes it hard to control bowel movements. This trial compares three tools used during those programs: a bisacodyl suppository, a mini enema called Enemeez, and a transanal irrigation device called Peristeen. Researchers want to see which tool helps participants finish their bowel program in the least amount of time and whether it reduces episodes of incontinence or constipation. Inclusion Criteria: * admission to acute rehab inpatient unit * diagnosis of spinal cord injury * reflexive type neurogenic bowel requiring bowel program with suppository and digital stimulation Exclusion Criteria: * anal or rectal stenosis * active inflammatory bowel disease * acute diverticulitis * colorectal cancer * ischemic colitis * rectal surgery within the last 3 months * endoscopic polypectomy within the last 4 weeks * areflexic bowel * severe autonomic dysreflexia
