Does the size of the tube matter? new study aims to improve stomach surgery safety
NCT ID NCT07230769
First seen Nov 17, 2025 · Last updated May 10, 2026 · Updated 23 times
Summary
This study compares two different tube sizes used during laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, a surgery that makes the stomach smaller to help with weight loss. About 100 adults with obesity will be randomly assigned to receive either a small (36-Fr) or extra-large (over 40-Fr) bougie to guide the surgery. The main goal is to see which size reduces the risk of stomach leaks, a serious complication, while still helping patients lose weight effectively.
