New hope for severe asthma sufferers: lung-heating procedure may slash attacks

NCT ID NCT07292805

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tests a procedure called bronchial thermoplasty (BT) for people with severe asthma that remains uncontrolled even with biologic drugs. BT uses a thin tube to deliver heat to the airway walls, aiming to reduce asthma attacks and improve quality of life. About 90 adults will be randomly assigned to receive BT or continue standard care, and researchers will compare the number of severe asthma attacks over one year.
