Growth factors help regrow jawbone in small study
NCT ID NCT07654218
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested a procedure that uses a patient's own growth factors to help rebuild lost jawbone. Eleven people with severe bone loss in the upper jaw received a bone graft mixed with plasma rich in growth factors. After 6-9 months, enough bone had grown to place dental implants. The results suggest this technique may be a safe way to prepare the jaw for implants, but larger studies are needed.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF) combined with bone graft (autogenous bone and bovine bone mineral)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this approach could provide a reliable way to rebuild jawbone in people with severe bone loss, allowing them to get dental implants and improve chewing and appearance.
- What could go wrong
- This was a very small study (11 people) with no comparison group, so results may not apply to everyone. The procedure is invasive and carries risks like infection, graft failure, or nerve damage.
