Could a blood flow cuff help teens recover from ACL surgery?

NCT ID NCT05754632

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study looks at whether adding blood flow restriction training (BFRT) to standard physical therapy helps teens recover strength and muscle size after ACL reconstruction. Forty teens who played sports before surgery will be randomly assigned to either standard rehab or standard rehab plus BFRT. Researchers will measure knee motion, leg strength, and patient-reported outcomes over time.

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a better rehab method for teens recovering from ACL surgery, helping them regain strength faster.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The device is used with exercise, and risks like discomfort or bruising are possible.
