Tight cuffs, sharp kicks: new training trick to beat soccer fatigue?
NCT ID NCT07496944
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether wearing pressurized cuffs on the legs during soccer drills helps players maintain passing and dribbling accuracy when fatigued. Forty young male soccer players did a 6-week training program, with one group using cuffs at 80% pressure and a control group using cuffs with no pressure. Before and after the program, researchers measured their skills before and after a tiring exercise routine to see which group's performance held up better.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Blood flow restriction cuffs inflated to 80% limb occlusion pressure during small-sided soccer games
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a training method to help soccer players maintain their passing and dribbling accuracy even when fatigued.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 40 young male players, so results may not apply to all athletes. The intervention is also very specific and may not translate to real-game performance.
