New MRI method could speed up bladder cancer diagnosis
NCT ID NCT05779631
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares a new diagnostic approach—using an MRI plus a same-day biopsy—against the standard procedure (TURBT) for diagnosing muscle-invasive bladder cancer. Researchers will enroll 360 adults suspected of having this aggressive cancer. The goal is to see if the new method leads to faster treatment and better outcomes, such as longer survival without the cancer spreading.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- mpMRI plus same-day cystoscopic bladder biopsy
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could replace the standard two-step diagnosis with a faster, single-day procedure, potentially improving survival by starting treatment sooner.
- What could go wrong
- This is a diagnostic study, not a treatment trial. The MRI approach may not prove more effective than current methods, and some patients may still need additional procedures.
