First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether placing the numbing drug bupivacaine into the bladder after kidney stone surgery can reduce pain and bladder spasms. About 116 adults will be randomly assigned to receive either the drug or a saltwater placebo. The goal is to see if this simple step improves comfort and speeds discharge from the hospital.

Active substance

bupivacaine

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a simple, low-cost way to reduce pain and speed recovery after common kidney stone surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase trial (116 people) testing a short-term effect. The benefit may be small or no better than placebo, and the drug is only tested for immediate post-op use.
