NCT ID NCT04922333

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study tests whether a monthly pill called risedronate can prevent bone and muscle loss that often happens after weight-loss surgery. About 200 adults who have had sleeve gastrectomy will take either risedronate or a placebo for 6 months and be followed for a year. Risedronate is already FDA-approved for osteoporosis but not for this use. The goal is to see if it helps keep bones strong after surgery.
