New hope for kidney transplants: drug switch may protect heart and blood vessels

NCT ID NCT06291077

First seen Feb 06, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study looks at kidney transplant patients who take drugs to prevent organ rejection. Some take standard anticalcineurin drugs, which can harm blood vessels and raise heart risks. Others switch to a newer drug called belatacept. The goal is to see if belatacept improves blood vessel function over 6 months. About 44 adults will take part, and results could help doctors choose safer long-term treatments.
