Bladder training could be as good as pelvic floor therapy for urgency incontinence
NCT ID NCT07259148
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a simple behavioral program—like timed bathroom visits and avoiding bladder irritants—works as well as supervised pelvic floor muscle training when both are combined with standard medication for urgency urinary incontinence. Eighty women with this condition will be randomly assigned to one of the two approaches for 8 weeks. The goal is to see if the behavioral option, which is easier to access in low-resource settings, is not inferior to pelvic floor training in reducing incontinence symptoms.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Oxybutynin / Mirabegron
What this could lead to
If behavioral therapy works as well as pelvic floor training, it could offer a simpler, low-cost option for women with urgency incontinence, especially in areas with limited access to specialized physiotherapy.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 80 participants, so results may not apply to all women. The behavioral approach might not be as effective as pelvic floor training, and side effects from medication are possible.
