School tooth decay study aims to personalize Kids' dental care
NCT ID NCT07265830
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests different sequences of minimally invasive dental treatments—like silver diamine fluoride, sealants, and fluoride varnish—plus a hygiene program, to see which works best for children aged 5 to 13 in schools. The goal is to reduce the number of kids who don't respond to treatment and prevent new cavities. 1,200 children will take part across multiple schools.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Silver diamine fluoride, glass ionomer sealant, fluoride varnish, and a behavioral hygiene intervention
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help schools personalize dental care to reduce tooth decay in children more effectively.
What could go wrong
This is a large phase 3 trial, but results depend on real-world school settings and may not apply to all children. Some kids may still not respond to treatment.
