New pacing technique may protect heart function in AFib patients

NCT ID NCT07428967

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two types of pacemaker placement after a procedure called AV node ablation for people with atrial fibrillation and normal heart function. One method uses standard right ventricular pacing, while the other targets the left bundle branch area. The goal is to see which approach better preserves the heart's pumping ability and improves quality of life. About 86 participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two pacing methods.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

pacemaker implantation (left bundle branch area pacing vs. right ventricular pacing)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a safer pacing method for people with atrial fibrillation, reducing the risk of heart muscle weakening after AV node ablation.

What could go wrong

This is a relatively small, early-stage trial (86 participants) comparing two procedures, so results may not apply to everyone. Both procedures carry standard risks of pacemaker implantation, such as infection or bleeding.
