Can activating cell cleanup improve blood vessel function in diabetes?
NCT ID NCT05593549
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether a natural cell process called autophagy (cell cleanup) is reduced in people with type 2 diabetes and if that harms small blood vessels. Sixty adults with and without diabetes will take either trehalose (a sugar that may boost autophagy) or a placebo for 14 days. Researchers will measure blood vessel function and autophagy markers to understand the link.
