Can collagen and hyaluronic acid boost rotator cuff repair?
NCT ID NCT07285746
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether injecting atelocollagen and hyaluronic acid during rotator cuff surgery improves healing. 124 people aged 40-75 with confirmed tears are enrolled. They receive one or both injections during arthroscopic repair and are followed for 2 years with MRI scans and shoulder function tests. The goal is to see if these substances work better together than alone.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Atelocollagen and hyaluronic acid injections
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that combining atelocollagen and hyaluronic acid helps rotator cuff tears heal better after surgery, reducing pain and improving shoulder function.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with 124 participants. The injections are given during surgery, so results may not apply to all tear types. There is no guarantee of a synergistic effect.
