Blocking blood flow to bone tumors may offer pain relief without major surgery
NCT ID NCT06189079
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether a procedure called arterial embolization can reduce pain and improve quality of life in people with bone metastases (cancer that has spread to the bones). The procedure blocks blood flow to the tumor, which may shrink it and ease symptoms. Researchers will follow 60 participants to measure pain levels, quality of life, and tumor size changes over time.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
arterial embolization (a procedure that blocks blood flow to tumors)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a low-risk way to ease pain and improve daily life for people with bone metastases that have spread from other cancers.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a controlled trial, so results may be less reliable. It is also small (60 participants) and focused on short-term symptom relief, not a cure.
