Mouthwash makeover: could a dental Deep-Clean beat Cancer's painful side effect?

NCT ID NCT03843554

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tested whether a thorough dental cleaning and mouth treatment could prevent severe mouth sores in people with head and neck cancer getting radiation. About 60 adults were assigned to either the special cleaning or standard brushing. The goal was to see if the cleaning lowered the chance of sores so bad that patients could only drink liquids or nothing at all. The trial was stopped early, so results are limited.
