Gum disease antibiotics put to the test in nationwide dental study
NCT ID NCT06131021
First seen May 05, 2026 ยท Last updated May 05, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether taking antibiotics along with standard deep-cleaning treatment (scaling and root planing) helps adults with gum disease more than the cleaning alone. 236 adults from dental practices across the U.S. took part. The researchers measured gum pocket depths and other signs of disease at 6 weeks and up to 12 months after treatment to see if the antibiotics made a difference.
